For many years the homeless have lived in the street of Fredriksted and Christainsted. Suffering from serious substance abuse and mental illness. They met many closed doors. Although the community expressed great concern no me seemed to know what to do. Finally through the De Jongh Francis Administration support is being given to those organizations in the community with the courage and strength to help the homeless. In the past many complicating factors have interfered with the person receiving help. Finally plans are being made to address the multiple causes of homelessness. Plans for prevention are being created and response to our Homeless is underway through organizations such as Ten Thousand Helpers of St.Croix. Ten Thousand Helpers will remove obstacles and help to streamline the system so that it is responsive to the homeless individuals.
