On October 4th, 2006 Ten Thousand Helpers of St.Croix placed a bid on a building in Frederiksted. That beautifully restored historic building, on Market Street Frederiksted, known as Abel House, will become our Rainbow House for persons who are mentally ill and homeless. The house features two stories and an outside apartment. The purpose of the building is to create a helping environment where any homeless person regardless of referrals can come for nourishing snacks someone to talk to and information on mainstream services that might help. It is our goal to have a qualified staff that will be trained in alternation and traditions intervention so that real behavioral changes take place. Through collaboration with mainstream services we will support and nourish the individuals guiding them through a transformational experience so that they can gain self sufficiency and eventually give back to their community.
We plan to make the outside apartment the Drop in Center. Upstairs will house the corporate office of Ten Thousand Helper of St. Croix, Inc.The two apartments downstairs will be used for Transitional Housing for 10 clients who have taken the first steps towards their rehabilitation. We will be needing furniture for every section of the building. We invite you to make donations. We will post your gift on this page with acknowledgements and thanks! |
